Problem-driven Iterative Adaptation and Institutional Change

The project aims to apply problem driven iterative adaptation (PDIA) as a method of systematically analyzing and addressing root causes of inequities experienced by minoritized tenure-line and career-line STEM faculty in different stages of their careers and across disciplines. The PDIA approach—which comes from the field of international development—will be applied through Institutional Change (IC) Studios to create a dynamic “learn-by-doing” process involving several key steps. PDIA is well-suited for the context of our highly decentralized university that is home to several STEM colleges, each with its own history, culture, disciplinary lens, programs, and policies. PDIA supports creating diverse and appropriate solutions for specific problems within local contexts.
